Every lot ships with its certificate.
Saffron is graded by what a spectrophotometer measures: coloring strength, bitterness and aroma. ISO 3632 sets the bar. An independent US lab tests each lot before it is packed, and the numbers go on this page and behind the QR code on your tin.
Independent studies find 20 to 45 percent of retail saffron samples cut, dyed or short. The test is how you know.
| Measure (ISO 3632-2) | Category I minimum | This lot |
|---|---|---|
| Crocin Coloring strength, 440 nm | ≥ 200 | [result] |
| Picrocrocin Bitterness, 257 nm | ≥ 70 | [result] |
| Safranal Aroma, 330 nm | 20 to 50 | [result] |
| Moisture and volatiles Dryness | ≤ 12% | [result] |
| Floral waste Purity | ≤ 0.5% | [result] |
Method: ISO 3632-2, UV-vis spectrophotometry on a dry basis. Category I is the highest grade in the standard.
Origin
From Herat, directly.
Herat province grows most of Afghanistan's saffron. The crocus flowers for a few weeks in late October and November. Each flower gives three red stigmas, picked by hand in the early morning and dried the same day. It takes roughly 150,000 flowers to make a kilo.
[Two or three sentences in your own words: who grows it, which district, how long you have worked together, and what you pay them. This is the paragraph buyers will quote back to you.]
- Harvest
- Late October to November, picked by hand before the flowers open in the sun.
- Grade
- Super Negin: whole red stigmas, trimmed of the yellow style, the longest cut.
- Lots
- Each lot is numbered, tested and traceable to its growers.
Why the label says Afghanistan, not “Persian”.
Under current US sanctions, Iranian-origin saffron cannot be lawfully imported into the United States. A lot of what is sold here as “Persian” is either mislabeled or Afghan saffron wearing a borrowed name.
Ours is grown, dried and packed in Afghanistan and marked that way on every tin. Trade buyers can request a certificate of origin with any order.

FAQ
Questions buyers ask.
Is this Iranian or “Persian” saffron?
No. It is grown, dried and packed in Herat province, Afghanistan, and marked Product of Afghanistan. Iranian-origin saffron cannot be lawfully imported into the United States, and we do not sell it. A certificate of origin is available for every lot.
How do I know it is real?
Every lot is tested to ISO 3632 by an independent lab, and the results are on this page and behind the QR code on your tin. At home, drop a few threads in warm water. Real saffron turns the water gold slowly over ten to fifteen minutes while the threads stay red. Dyed fakes bleed at once and go pale.
What does “net weight” mean on your tins?
The grams on the label are saffron only. The tin and liner are not counted. Put it on a scale; it will meet or exceed the label.
How should I store it?
Airtight, away from light, at room temperature. Whole threads hold their aroma for about two years. Powder fades much faster, which is why we only sell threads.
Do you offer wholesale pricing and net terms?
Yes. Prices for 100 g to 1 kg are published on the wholesale page, and you can order online by card or bank debit without an account. Net 30 is available to approved accounts. Resale-certificate holders buy without sales tax.
Do you ship outside the United States?
[Your policy.] If yes: ask before ordering. Duties are charged on arrival in most countries, and carrier insurance limits on food shipments differ by destination.
